Our God is an Awesome God!

Prayers are being answered! We were recently contacted about receiving a donation of yarn. Isn't God great? Not to us, but to HIM be all the glory!

Thank you for all of your prayers. We are still in need of volunteers, and we ask you to keep praying for us.

Trust in the LORD, and do good;
dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.

Delight yourself in the LORD,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in him, and he will act.

--Psalm 37:3-5

Dusting off the blog...

It's been awhile since we've updated! Summer is a busy time of family vacations, VBS, and other fun stuff. Our volunteers are still hard at work, crocheting and knitting handmade items to be distributed to those in need.

Helping Hats has two big needs of its own right now:

  1. VOLUNTEERS - We need more people to help us knit and crochet to reach our goal of 800 hat and scarf sets by November. If you are interested, please email us at helpinghats@gmail.com. If you know of a way we can get the word out and recruit more volunteers, we would love to hear that as well.
  2. YARN - We need yarn! 100% acrylic, any color. We recommend Red Heart Super Savers yarn. If you are interested in donating, please contact us at helpinghats@gmail.com.

We also ask that you continue to pray for us and the ministries we serve.

Please Pray for Us

New Life Community Church, the home church of many Helping Hats volunteers was vandalized on Saturday night (http://www.theindychannel.com/news/16614018/detail.html). We are heartbroken, but we thank God that no one was hurt and that nothing was taken. We ask that you pray for us as we clean up and repair. We also pray for those that committed this crime, because it is obvious by their actions that their hearts are far from God.

Everyone Has a Purpose

By Alta Smith

Sometimes when I am sitting before the Lord, He gives me a new revelation or a new perspective on things. Recently, He gave me an understanding that we all have a purpose or a calling. It is a high calling of serving one another.

Jesus told us to go into all the world and deliver the good news of the Gospel -- setting the captives free. We have been sent, like Moses, to many people to serve God's purpose in setting them free of bondages.

The Lord said, "So many are being led astray by the tempter without realizing the consequences. Do not leave them in the 'desert' where they could perish." He said that we are to pray for those who are struggling with their will in doing the right thing, that we are to pray for their calling and purpose to be fulfilled. In other words, pray until the work in them is birthed or brought to fruition, and if we pray daily for ways to lead people out of captivity, the Lord will help us.

He also said, "If My people would increase their desire to serve Me, they would be able to find new ways to help others. For is not life on earth about serving one another? It is only when My people hinder one another that the enemy's purpose is served."

That message came to me on Tuesday. Then on Wednesday, I hear about a new ministry called Helping Hats.

This message appeared in a church bulletin on May 18th. Thank you Alta for sharing your heart and supporting Helping Hats.

Summer Crochet Fellowshop Kickoff!

Our first crochet fellowship meeting was a huge success! We praise God for all of the new people we have met, and all the people willing to learn how to knit or crochet just to help us out. We thank God that our prayer for laborers is being answered.

Our weekly crochet fellowship meets at the Ashtonbrook Apartments Clubhouse every Thursday at 7pm. If you would like to join us, please send us an email at helpinghats@gmail.com.

It was so amazing to go to a Memorial Day cookout last weekend, and see several women sitting outside in lawn chairs crocheting for Helping Hats! It's so exciting to see what God will do with even the most humble offerings we give Him.

Praying for the Harvest

When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest." -- Matthew 9:36-38

We ask you to pray with us and for us. Our city is ripe with harvest. Helping Hats is just one of many ministries that is in need of laborers. Please pray that across Indianapolis, God will send laborers out into the harvest field of souls.
